Rakhi, or Raksha Bandhan, is a festival that celebrates the bond of love between siblings. In August 2015, Kathak Dharohar decided to bring the joy of this festival to Jahangir Puri, a slum area in Delhi. While the surroundings were humble, the spirit of the residents was indomitable.
The day was marked by the tying of Rakhis, singing, dancing, and sharing of sweets. For many children in the slum, it was a day of joy, love, and celebration, as they felt included and cherished. It was a reminder that festivals are not just about rituals, but about human connections, love, and spreading joy.
