In January 2016, Kathak Dharohar embarked on a mission to bring forth the latent talents of children from deprived and economically weaker backgrounds. A workshop, tailored to impart the basics of the Indian classical dance form Kathak, was organized. The intent was not just to teach dance but to instill confidence, reignite passion, and provide a platform for these children to shine.
The workshop saw participation from over 145 students hailing from tribal communities, leprosy-affected families, slums, as well as those who were differently-abled. Under the expert guidance of Shri Sadanand Biswas, the General Secretary of Kathak Dharohar, and other dedicated trainers, the children underwent a transformative journey. They not only learned the nuances of Kathak but also discovered their own potential and self-worth.
The culmination of this workshop was a grand performance at the Srijoni Auditorium in Durgapur. Witnessing students from diverse backgrounds come together on one stage, celebrating their shared love for dance, was a sight to behold. The event was graced by Mr. M.K Mookherjee, APS to the President of India. The success of this event underscored the belief that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has a unique talent waiting to be discovered and nurtured.
