The International Day of People with Disability is a clarion call, urging societies globally to re-evaluate their perceptions and actions towards the differently-abled. Proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1992, this day is not just about recognition but about creating inclusive environments that recognize the potential and rights of those with disabilities.
The theme for 2017 was “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all.” This theme echoes the vision of the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development, which seeks transformative changes to create societies that are inclusive, sustainable, and resilient. The crux of this theme revolves around the principle of 'leave no one behind', emphasizing that persons with disabilities should be active contributors to societal growth.
In line with this global movement, Kathak Dharohar celebrated the International Day of People with Disability at S.G. Special School in Kuttichal Grama Panchayat, Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. This school, guided by the belief that differently-abled children possess immense potential, seeks to offer them education, training, and encouragement.
Kathak Dharohar's vision aligns perfectly with the school's objectives. Believing in nurturing the young minds of underprivileged children through Arts and Culture, the team spent a day filled with joy, laughter, and learning. Activities ranged from singing and dancing to playing educational games, ensuring that every child felt loved, valued, and special.
The day's success was evident in the radiant smiles of the children and the heartfelt connections forged. The members of Kathak Dharohar left with a promise to return and a commitment to championing the cause of the differently-abled. The event also served as a reminder of the invaluable contributions of the likes of Respected Mata Sadhvi Panchi Prakashmayee, Respected Shree Swami Samvidananda, Sadanand ji, General Secretary of Kathak Dharohar, and the Legal Advisor, Shree Mohit Jain ji.
